Bagels and banter
By Robert Lovinger, Standard-Times staff writer
Dave Glicksman nods toward the pre-dawn darkness beyond the plate-glass front window of New York Bagel. "Here comes Barry."
It is 5:45, Friday morning. Soon, a handful of men will be sitting on stools here -- sipping, chewing, scanning the morning papers, playfully insulting each other, gazing out onto a rain-glossed Route 6 like they own it.
They are the leading edge of "the crowd" at New York Bagel in Dartmouth.
In an age when the closest most of us get to a general-store wood stove is a chat room on the Web, it's nice to find a place that makes us feel at home.
